"US-_" or "RS-_?"
Users who are working with Russian System Software need to install
with the disk "RS-RussianH(TM)" or "RS-RussianHa(TM)".
The procedure is the same as given for "US-RussianH(TM)"
above, except that the Installer application is named in Russian.
All other users should install with "US-RussianH(TM)"
or "US-RussianHa(TM)"
RussianH, RussianHa, or
both?
The font family RussianHa conforms to the Apple Cyrillic Character
Encoding published by Apple Computer, Inc. The font family RussianH
conforms to the Extended Apple Cyrillic Character Encoding, developed
by several Russian type vendors.
Extended Apple Cyrillic substitutes a few additional Cyrillic
characters for infrequently used special symbols while mostly
conforming to the Apple standard.
Most users will want to work with RussianH. If your work must
conform 100% to the Apple Cyrillic Encoding, then use RussianHa.
You may install both RussianH and RussianHa to the same startup-disk
if desired. The two fonts have separate ID's and will not conflict
with each other.
What is "character
encoding?"
Character
encoding associates characters (letters of the alphabet, punctuation,
numerals and special characters) with numbers. Computers use numbers
to represent text in memory and on disk. Most desktop computers
use the ASCII
standard for Roman based text. Non-Roman languages such as Arabic,
Cyrillic or Hebrew
must use other standards.
What encoding
standards are used for Cyrillic languages?
Macintosh:
Apple

Extended
Apple Cyrillic Encoding

PC:
